One of the founders of the avant-garde group of abstract artists in Como, Mario Radice was a central figure in the definition of the aniconic codes in twentieth-century Italian painting. In particular, in the work Composizione G.R.U. 35/B we note Radice's interest in geometric structures where chromatic articulations emerge from the joints between different planes and shapes. These interweavings and variations demonstrate both the importance of the plastic dimension of the image and a contiguity with architectural design. This interest is also evidenced in Radice's close relationship with Giuseppe Terragni, for whom he created a decorative cycle (now lost) in the former Casa del Fascio in Como. (AC)
