11 February 2021–11 December 2022
The Exhibition
From Thursday 11 February 2021, the centenary of the birth of Ottavio Missoni will be celebrated. Along with his wife Rosita, was one of the most successful fashion entrepreneurs of the twentieth century and he was also a spokesperson for Made in Italy throughout the world.
For the occasion, the Museum presents the redesigned layout of the "Ottavio Missoni Tapestry Room" in collaboration with the Ottavio and Rosita Missoni Foundation. The exhibition expands the materials and works available to the public throughout 2021 and 2023.
The section became a permanent part of exhibition itinerary after the show “Missoni, l’arte, il colore” held in 2014 and preserves a series of large tapestries made of knitted fabric patchwork created by Ottavio Missoni; the space was imagined by his son Luca Missoni and designed by Angelo Jelmini, to underline the value of these peculiar textile creations.
“On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of my father's birth - says Luca Missoni - it seemed natural to us to support the exhibition of his tapestries with a thematic narration of his artistic work.
A selection of original studies, drawings and knitted fabrics give to the visitors an overview of his artistic practice and an artisanal approach to design production.
Admission to Ottavio Missoni Tapestry Room is free, thanks to the support of Ricola.
