ATTO UNICO
GALLARATE PRIZE 1950-2025
Curated by Emma Zanella and Alessandro Castiglioni

13.04.2025 - 05.10.2025

Opening 12.04.2025

From April 13 to October 5, 2025, MA*GA Museum celebrates the 75th year of art, stories, and ideas of the Gallarate Prize, one of the first cultural institutions involved in supporting Italian artistic production, born at the end of World War II and still active today. The National Visual Arts Award City of Gallarate was founded in 1949 to bring new cultural vitality to the area and, above all, to establish a Museum of Contemporary Art, namely the Civic Gallery of Modern Art of Gallarate inaugurated in 1966 precisely with the prestigious artistic heritage that the Award itself acquired in its previous editions. All the acquisitions gave birth to and continue to enrich the permanent collection of the MA*GA - Gallarate Museum of Art, which is responsible for preserving and enhancing it.

The exhibition, curated by Emma Zanella and Alessandro Castiglioni, offers an experimental rearrangement of the MA*GA Museum's permanent collections flanked by archival documents, unpublished video and photographic evidence, and critical insights into a reality that has given rise to one of the most significant contemporary art museums nationwide.

The exhibition is produced by Premio Gallarate as part of the XXVIII Edition and Museo MA*GA, with the contribution of Regione Lombardia - Orizzonti in Movimento project for the call OLIMPIADI DELLA CULTURA - Invito 2025-2026.

Recent acquisitions under PAC 2024 - Piano per l'Arte Contemporanea - Luciano Fabro, Vera, 1969; Ketty La Rocca, Appendice per una supplica, 1972 - and Strategia Fotografia 2024 - Giulio Paolini, Il mondo di prima, 2020 - promoted by the Ministry of Culture's Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea - will be presented at the exhibition.
